The American Spectator was Prescient.

This was written on January 14:
Here's the deal, folks: The New York Times has some damaging goods on John McCain, reportedly involving a female lobbyist. McCain threatened legal action if the Times printed the story. The Times backed off... for now. But you can be sure the Times will unload on McCain if he nails down the GOP nomination.

[via a very nasty, anti-McCain wingnut comments section that, for the sake of the children, I will not link to...]

...Now's as good a time as any to float a theory: a goodly chunk of the media is sick of being told its 'in the tank for McCain'. My guess is that this -- a sort of declaration of independence -- is a first shot across the bow and that there's more coming.

Another prediction: the same people who gave us Troopergate, Vince Foster, etc., will be up in arms about the McCain story and will, once again, deem the Gray Lady treasonous. Well, folks, as Tommy Friedman once said...

Suck. On. This.
