These people really are clueless.
I think I've mentioned before that my day job is advertising. So I can tell you that when you've got a shitty product, more advertising actually hurts you. And "getting rid of programs that help people like you so we can keep taxes low for rich people" is a lousy product.
So knock yourself out, Reince.

Shorter Republicans: We need to go down to the speakeasy and get some better liars.

"Reach out to the African-American and urban voters already in the districts the GOP represents to get an idea of how bad things actually are," he writes in a Washington Post opinion piece. "Listen, don't talk much. Know where 'ground zero' is for real."
Then deliver the same empty cliches, peppered with inadvertently racist allusions, tone-deaf comments that offend women, and open adulation of the obscenely rich, who are (rightly) viewed by the people you want to "reach" as being their privileged, hypocritical enemies.
That should do it.
I'm in health care analytics now, but used to be in advertising.
While the GOP product is really terrible, and totally unmarketable to well-meaning people, the Fox News and Hate Radio rubes this stuff attracts are tremendously valuable to advertisers. They have money, but no critical thinking skills. Stupid, fearful people with money are an ad man's bread and butter.
These media exist to draw in morons and sell them stuff they don't really need.
All the talk about message, marketing, & tactics IS the advertising!!
I used to work in advertising too, but, I'm not sure there's an applicable metaphor involving products that I can present, because I see it as wholly political.
IE: That's all the talk is about. That's the advertisement within itself.
I'm sure there's a term for this.
Maybe PR stunt?
They're not worried that there's no substance to it, because they think they'll be able to win over these other demographics by the same means they've won other demographics - by playing to an audience, pandering to some insignificant issues, and counting on the fact that many people will believe misinformation.
This has worked for them.
And I think on some level, they believe that the same thing has worked for Obama. They think all Obama's methods have been superficial PR stunts or whatever.
And there's definitely evidence for that. Obama has neglected many of his supporters, albeit mostly not his fault - but I'm sure the opposition sees that and thinks, well, Obama did this, didn't do this, and they still voted for him...
I'm curious to find out what blog platform you have been using? I'm having some minor security issues with my latest site and
