Civility police.

Frum's talking to you, Putz.
"It's bad enough to have a gun lobby. It's the last straw when that lobby also sets up itself as the civility police. It may not be politically possible to do anything about the prevalence of weapons of mass murder. But it damn well ought to be possible to complain about them - and about the people who condone them."

Unfortunately, Wayne LaPierre and the NRA will remind us all that massacres of children on this scale are small price to pay. And, besides, it's utterly indecent to think of restricting gun rights while it's as American and moral as apple pie to simply ignore all the grieving parents.

For clarity's sake, I'd like to hear what the NRA, Fischer, Putz, et al would recommend to parents how to talk to their young children who have witnessed and survived this ultimately cynical tragedy. Show them pictures of child soldiers with their long dead gaze and tell them to "man up"?

Charlie Pierce does often say it best sometimes the first time (in response to Fischer): "Go fuck yourself, pal".

In this, anger must be first. Unremitting.

If everyone is allowed to carry guns then these kinds of tragedies are an inevitable consequence of that.

When you have so many people taking psychiatric meds (thanks Big Pharma!) and carrying guns (thanks NRA!), only a complete idiot would be surprised at the result.

Do we allow everyone to drive a car?
Do we allow everyone to drive Abrams battle tanks?

Another irony is the same people who talk about guns as a protection from "the government" (folks like Putz), love the huge millitary industrial complex. A huge, vast millitary machine that could crush any resistance by armed Americans with ease.
