Do war supporters ever tire of arguing with strawmen?

Putz links to the reliably nonpartisan Barone, who writes:
The Democrats here suffered from a lack of imagination. They could not imagine that the United States military could perform more effectively in 2007 than it did in 2005 and 2006.
I don't recall any Democrat publicly questioning the performance of the US military. I do recall, however, that Gen. Petraeus said there was no military solution to Iraq. And what the Putzen and Barones of the world seem to never acknowledge is that the surge can only be called a success if Iraqi politics succeeds. And it hasn't.

And I might add, it also seems like it's not just Democrats but two-thirds of the country that suffer from a lack of imagination.
