Eric Bohelert sent me [Greenwald] an e-mail with the subject "Unintended howler" -- which, as it turns out, was an understatement. Eric's e-mail consists of an excerpt from this post from Instapundit yesterday:
JAMIL HUSSEIN: IS HE OR ISN'T HE? Bob Owens has some thoughts. . . . I'm expecting Michelle Malkin to get to the bottom of this.
It's honestly hard to believe that someone could say that without sarcasm, but Reynolds is being very earnest here. He would never joke about something as sacrosanct as Michelle Malkin's investigative skills.
No, he wouldn't. That's what we're here for.

You really need to read this Insty link (below) to Althouse. It is an absolute classic. Make sure you do as Insty instructs, but before you get to Althouse, just take a wild stab at who the first commenter blames for "WHY ARE AMERICANS SIMULTANEOUSLY OPTIMISTIC AND PESSIMISTIC."
I guessed exactly what Insty thought the "answer" was, and then burst out laughing. He really is a predictable tool.

InstaPundit posted yet another link to West Virginia pundit Don Surber, who believes in making a “Big Tent” for Republican porn stars, and who has frequently professed his faith in Laurie Mylroie's wacky theories.

This time, Don Surber has posted his interpretation that the latest numbers from the Rassmussen Reports are showing that Nancy's less popular than Boy George.

So, really, what's new at Rasmussen as of the first week of 2007?

Pelosi and Hastert Each Have 24% Favorable Rating

Pelosi: 43% Have Favorable Opinion of New House Speaker
...39% have an unfavorable opinion of the Speaker.
...Those numbers reflect a significant improvement for Pelosi since November. At that time, just 24% had a favorably opinion of her while 40% held an unfavorable view...

President Bush Job Approval
The President’s Job Approval Ratings have bounced up slightly in the first week of the New Year. Today, 45% of Americans say they at least "Somewhat Approve" of the way George W. Bush is performing his role.
...Rasmussen Reports also conducts an entirely separate nightly survey of Likely Voters. Participants in that survey are asked to rate the President on a scale of excellent, good, fair, or poor. For the full month of December, 19% said excellent, 18% good, 16% fair, and 47% poor.
It will take a few more days to see if the Presidential Ratings bounce is a lasting change or mere statistical noise...

PELOSI'S APPROVAL RATING: lower than Bush's? You wouldn't know that from the press coverage.

Yep, Bush is surging :

Bush followers love those Rasmussen Reports, because the number of people who "at least Somewhat Approve" of the president is usually a few points higher than his approval rating in other polls that simply ask "do you approve or disapprove".
Glenn Reynolds and Don Surber are taking a poll that shows Nancy's approval ratings surging upwards, and they're implying (without actually lying) that Bush is way more popular than Pelosi, when it's actually a statistical tie.
Oh, and one more thing. Reynolds and Surber didn't mention this other poll at Rasmussen Reports :

48% Trust Dem Leaders in Congress,
38% Trust Bush
. . . and the number one issue that poll respondents want Congress to focus on is Iraq.

It's been two months since the election but the Bush followers are still in denial.
Yep, brilliant.
"I think a lot of it has to do with reporting."
It's really a sickness, isn't it. Everything's the media's fault. Everything.
See, this is why I started this blog. There wasn't any way to call Putz on this kind of BS on a daily basis, because he doesn't allow comments.
There's plenty of putziness to go around -- keep 'em comin' please.
