Brookings hearts Dan Quayle.

No, Dan Quayle wasn't right.

The whole point of what he was saying at the time -- and I was there -- was to shame women for unapproved sexy time. What's the alternative to a single mother having a baby? Abortion, which people like Dan Quayle also oppose.

Because there are so many single mothers in the Red States (coughBristolPalincough), Republicans can't scapegoat single mothers effectively any more without insulting too many of their own. So they've moved on to the contraception slut-shaming/transvaginal ultrasounds stuff.

Sandra Fluke is today's Murphy Brown. Same playbook.
