We don't like Bush in Texas, either.

Texans don't like losers.

President Bush's popularity, battered by slow going in Iraq and Congress, sagged nationally by 2006. So maybe it was inevitable that the twice-elected Texas governor would eventually lose luster back home.

According to Democratic pollster Jeff Smith, 43 percent of Texas voters approved of Bush's performance in May, and 44 percent disapproved, with 10 percent giving mixed marks or saying it depends on the issue. Put another way, his disapproval rating topped his approval rating in Texas for the first time since Smith started checking.

Good luck, Sen. Cornyn.
