Same Shit, Different Day.

A guy who owns two homes, including one on swanky Bainbridge Island, should not exhibit this kind of class envy:

-- "Unlike the gang over at NRO, when I hear a man is building a 28,000 square foot house for himself, I don't say "Good for him." Call me a Puritan, but there are limits to what a man actually needs on Earth."

-- "Meanwhile, John Edwards continues to tank. He must have known something when he started building that outlandish home."

-- "Edwards is apparently too busy to show up at the Fox-moderated Democratic presidential candidate debate in Nevada on August 14. (Yes, you read that right, August 14). I guess he's been outflanked by Obama on the left and is already is desperation mode. It's almost comical, really, a guy trying to build his left-wing cred at the same time as 28,000 square foot house."

-- "Also notable is the support being given by Peter Coyote (a friend of mine from our radical pasts) to John "Two Americas" Edwards of the four hundred dollar haircuts and 28,000 square foot house."

-- "A post on Politico reminded me of why I find John Edwards one of the most shallow politicians of our era. And not just because of the hair. Or even the 28,000 square foot house when he yammers on about the two Americas."

Now, less than a week later:

Is Edwards the biggest phony who has ever run for President? Well, that's saying a lot but.... maybe he is. The hair... the twenty-eight thousand square foot friend of the poor house, and now - the revelation that John-o received 800 grand from Murdoch for a book when the candidate has been making holier than thou swipes at Rupert and Fox News, refusing to appear on the channel, etc..

So Ben Franklin wasn't wrong, exactly, because even he couldn't have foreseen the cinematic abortion that is Scenes from a Mall. In this world, nothing is certain but death, taxes and that, at first opportunity, Roger Simon will repackage whatever's been said better elsewhere or, god forbid, his own crap.

Advantage, blogosphere!
