What exactly is a "non-combat related incident", aside from maddeningly vague Mil-speak? Is this something like friendly fire? Anyway the AP says that
Sgt. Miller ... died when the Humvee he was riding in flipped Friday near Herat, Afghanistan, according to Fort Riley officials. Miller, 43, was assigned to the 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley. He is the 122nd Fort Riley soldier to die in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Army Sgt. 1st Class Daniel E. Miller, 43, of Rossford was on his first deployment in the war on terrorism when the Humvee he was riding in flipped in Herat, Afghanistan.
Sergeant Miller was an infantryman serving on a transition team assigned to 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, in Fort Riley, Kan., according to information provided yesterday by Sgt. Stephen Baack with the 1st Infantry Division.
Transition team training is a 60-day training cycle to prepare teams of American soldiers, airmen, and sailors to mentor their Iraqi or Afghan counterparts, Sergeant Baack said.
It would be nice to know why the Humvee flipped. In the meantime, I'd like to believe that these guys and the other 428 have not died in vain.
