About The NYer Cover.

I'm not bothered by it, but EF's point is a good one:
a reader would have to have a fairly sophisticated understanding of [The New Yorker's] ethos to immediately intuit the intended ironic distance.


I've been a NYer subscriber for half my life and think Blitt's a genius, but, outside my beloved 5 boroughs, I'm probably in the minority. As much as I might like it to be, the NYer will never be as popular, or as profitable, as US Weekly.

That said, the Obama camp's reaction is overwrought, but their aggravation is understandable.
