The real danger is that those who defend Obama the Candidate no matter what he does are likely to defend Obama the President no matter what he does, too.

Meanwhile, I'm appalled by Obama's stance on the child rape death penalty decision, but not surprised -- as per this passage in Audacity of Hope:
While the evidence tells me that the death penalty does little to deter crime, I believe there are some crimes — mass murder, the rape and murder of a child — so heinous, so beyond the pale, that the community is justified in expressing the full measure of its outrage by meting out the ultimate punishment."
The problem, of course, is defining what constitutes a crime "so heinous, so beyond the pale..."
I know I can't, which is among the reasons I find it easy to be a staunch opponent of the death penalty.
