I, like Melinda Henneberger, am pissed off by Randall Patterson's Times story on the abstinence clubs. Patterson writes, "The Anscombe Society at Princeton went on to embrace positions not just against premarital sex but also against homosexual sex and marriage."
There's no follow-up, except to note that the Harvard branch declined to discriminate against gays because, said the club founder, "we just wanted it to be kind of humorous and lighthearted.”
The Princeton branch -- the de facto subject of the story! -- is composed of bigots who happen to be virgins and it would be nice if Patterson had pushed their assumptions a bit. The exclusion of gays should not be treated as incidental to their agenda.
...Yeah, what he said.
