Read Jim Henley on the Pvt. Beauchamp kerfuffle. He's 100% correct. What interests me, tho, is the absence of Martin Peretz, who, although he remains the Ed. in Chief of The New Republic, has said nothing about the whole affair. Even, in the wake of the latest Weekly Standard item, he still hasn't.
They say Marty's gone on vacation -- again! -- but that's no excuse for his silence (even, as his intern has it, he's "without Internet access"). If he can post from Beverly Hills, Israel or a boat "off the Turkish coast," the bastard can certainly find the time to write a 500-word paragraph from Lucca, Italy.
Marty, if you're feeling a little unmotivated, I understand. Hatred for your fellow man is a rough business and no doubt takes a lot of energy. So, simply because I love James Wood, I've found you an Internet cafe. I don't know if it's near your hotel, but Lucca's not a big place.
