Derb: The voice of reason. Sweet galloping Jesus.
Yesterday, it was David Freddoso -- today John Derbyshire jumps into the fray. He thrashes Andy McCarthy (who, in his defense, admits that "the war has never been about Iraq, much less about Iraqi democracy." Duh.) and says the following:
-- "It is entirely possible that with the U.S.A . gone from Iraq, the Shiites of that nation, with gleeful Iranian assistance, would turn on Al-Qaeda-in-Iraq."
--"Contrariwise, a U.S. assault on Iran might drive the Iranians, in desperation, to forge a real alliance with Al-Qaeda-in-Iraq, making our position in Iraq even worse."
-- Doing "nothing" in Iran "doesn't seem particularly implausible."
John Derbyshire would be an admirable chap if he were not such a homophobic racist. (Although, come to think of it, that makes his refusal to bomb Iran perversely laudatory. Hmmm.)
...Adds Sullivan: "We have thrown away our moral high ground; and we have lost the military low-ground. And we are being asked to follow the same leadership that did this to us into a new and unpredictable war with Iran. Are they kidding?"
