Joel Siegel's Place in the Pantheon Threatened?

Pictured: Not Pauline Kael

Probably not, but J-Pod gives it his best shot. I'll leave it to Roy to vivisect Pod's Post column -- in which he opines that it's "impossible" to watch The Seventh Seal "without laughing" and that "the basic truth is that the critics who described Bergman as the greatest of film artists were people embarrassed by the movies" -- but here's a friendly reminder of the man's critical acumen:

The upcoming Cinderella Man, starring Russell Crowe and directed by Ron Howard, is a thrilling piece of work. No, more than thrilling. I left the screening room this afternoon exhilarated, moved, excited, stirred and overwhelmed, convinced that Cinderella Man is one of the best movies ever made.

Tune in next week, when Atlas Pam lectures Christopher Hitchens on the wonders of sobriety.
