The deification of the US Army is a dangerous thing. Our troops are not an infallible cadre of warrior-kings, and pointing that out doesn't degrade "support" for them. What it does is caution against deploying them in circumstances that they are not trained nor equipped for -- like winning the hearts and minds of a population already skeptical of Western intentions and occupations. Maybe, if the US Army were perfect and its soldiers automatons, an occupation like Iraq could have been pulled off. Maybe. But those things aren't true, and they made this an impossible mission from the get go. It does not "support our troops" to lie about their capabilities and then embroil them in dangerous missions that can't possibly succeed.
