Let's go ahead and leave aside the nonpartisan's leaping to the defense of Giuliani and Thompson, while giddily and extensively promoting right wing smears against Democratic candidates -- like John Edwards hair and the Swift Boat Liars for Bush.

Yes friends, according to Putz, Fred Thompson's lying about his lobbying for a pro-choice group and the International Association of Fire Fighters attack on Giuliani have been engineered to help some nervous Democrat. Presumably like Mitt Romney.

And all those smears on Democrats? No doubt the product of confident Republicans.

What an idiot.

Unless you transpose "Democrats" and "journalists"—something I've never, ever heard a pundit do before—that isn't true. Hillary's scandals are old and boring, Barack Obama's only produced one small beer financial scandal, John Edwards is a walking punchline whose scandals are also old and boring. But Rudy's coming to the end of a six-year honeymoon and Thompson has never been worked over by the national political press. Since Thompson has, so far, come off sort of dopey and defensive, we can expect the beatings to continue.
