The white flag Pope.

Pope Benedict must be getting too much of his news from television, because he seems a little discouraged.
On Christianity's most joyous day, Pope Benedict XVI lamented the "continual slaughter" in Iraq and unrest in Afghanistan as he denounced violence in the name of religion.
Continual slaughter? Tut-tut. Maybe he should call the First Lady.
"Many parts of Iraq are stable now. But, uh, of course, what we see on television is the one bombing a day that discourages everyone."
Including the Pope, apparently.

Anyway, that Benedict, who is not exactly a liberal, criticized the Dear Leader's Great War for Western Civilization has caused Freeper heads to explode. "Conservative Christian religious leader says Iraq war bad. Does not compute. Does not compute."

A sample of the fun:

Pope Benedict says "nothing positive comes from Iraq, torn apart by continual slaughter as the civil population flees," probably because he doesn't sit around reading military blogs, which is about the only place that you DO hear something positive.

We all lament the slaughter that is Terrorism, don’t we? Amazing how the MSM every death in Iraq, almost every civilian. But they don’t post national headlines on every death that happens today in New York, Chicago, Miami, St. Louis, LA, San Fran, Seattle, Portland, Houston, etc. They don’t because the daily totals would dwarf any number they can come up with in Iraq.

I would like to remind the Pope that had it not been for this type violence approx. 60 years ago he might still be wearing the uniform of a Nazi instead of the robes he now wears.

The Pope is bad at political rhetoric and, like many Western Europeans, doesn’t really like the U.S.
Why does the defeatist Nazi Pope hate America?
