Do Republicans try to sound like elitist racists?

Karl Rove thinks it's right and proper that the brown people are around to do the dirty work.
According to a congressman's wife who attended a Republican women's luncheon yesterday, Karl Rove explained the rationale behind the president's amnesty/open-borders proposal this way: "I don't want my 17-year-old son to have to pick tomatoes or make beds in Las Vegas."
Yes, God forbid your teenage son should have to endure the personal degradation of some honest menial work, Karl.

But the GOP isn't the party of the rich and privileged.

UPDATE

Sullivan notes the White House confirmed Rove's statement, and wonders what the response would be if Pelosi had said the same thing. Given that the wingnuts and the media went into spasmatic ecstacy over the phony plane story, I can't even fathom what they'd do with this.

Rove says it -- and it's no biggie.
