Why is Gen. Abizaid empowering the terrorists?

We really wish we didn't have to point this out to a general, but this hysterical doomsday defeatism is hurting our troops and empowering the terrorrists:

Asked by Senator Carl Levin of Michigan, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Armed Services Committee, whether Iraq risked falling into civil war, Genl. Abizaid replied, “I believe that the sectarian violence is probably as bad as I’ve seen it, in Baghdad in particular, and that if not stopped, it is possible that Iraq could move towards civil war.”

Doesn't the general know that this "civil war" talk is a just a liberal media invention to drive Bush's poll numbers down?
