More George Allen. Where's Putz?

Sully notices, and picked up on the "welcome to America" part, too.
It's almost classic populist bigotry: create an enemy out there - fags, Indians, Jews, Hollywood, immigrants, whoever - and use them to build support for you as representing the "real world of Virginia." In one word: Rove. Yes, the word was deliberate and Allen knows what it means.
Still nothing from Putz. We won't hold our breath.

UPDATE:

Putz finally gets around to Allen's racist slur:
IS THE GEORGE ALLEN CAMPAIGN IN TROUBLE? If so, the fault is George Allen's.
Funny, but this post doesn't really have quite the enthusiasm that he's shown for this kind of story in the past. Hmmmm.

UPDATED AGAIN:

Ahhhhh, Putz didn't let us down. The inevitable dodge/denial:
UPDATE: Dan Riehl say reports of Allen's remarks are distorted.
Riehl offers no proof of this at all, of course, just this glib dismissal.
Obviously, Allen meant nothing offensive as regards the man's apparent Indian heritage in the sense the Post implies with his "Welcome to America" comment.
Yeah, except it turns out that Allen's mother is French Tunisian, and Allen speaks French, making it extremely unlikely that he didn't know what the word meant. Combine that with the fact that the young man was the only non-white person within earshot, and Allen weirdly chose to say to him, "Welcome to America."

It takes a quite a leap of faith to claim that Allen obviously meant no offense, doesn't it?

"Well of course I condemn Senator Allen -- but the REAL villain here is the Washington Post, for running the story!" Classic.
