THE DIXIE CHICKS: Learning the difference between capitalism and censorship. And that was on May 23, when the Chicks were already #1 on Amazon.
Now this. Oops.
The Dixie Chicks led the chart this week with their unapologetic seventh release Taking the Long Way, which sold more than half a million copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Despite country radio's reluctance to play the album's first single "Not Ready to Make Nice," this strong debut proves that the Texas trio's Rick Rubin-produced album is truly a genre bender that appeals to a wider fan base.I wonder if Putz will revisit the topic and admit that his oh-goody-the-Chicks-are-tanking post was wrong.
Nah.

The press has recently started reporting that the Dixie Chicks are having to rearrange some of the dates on their current US tour because of poor ticket sales. The dates affected appear to be in red states.
The plug was pulled on public on-sales for shows in Indianapolis (August 23), Oklahoma City (September 26), Memphis (September 27) and Houston (September 30) because of tepid pre-sales in a national promotion with Target stores.
The Memphis show has been pulled off the route and the status of the shows in Indianapolis, Houston and Oklahoma City remains uncertain. Industry speculation has it that much or all of the tour may be postponed. At the very least, it is likely routing and capacity will be reconfigured.
I am sure that we are going to see many posts about how their fans have turned on the Dixie Chicks. I don't think this is relevant as their latest album (Taking The Long Way) is definitely a crossover into the main stream of pop. So it would be interesting to see how those sales through Amazon are distributed between blue and red states and how that compares with sales of their previous albums.
No, the question is... will YOU revisit this?
